Meet the Perna Family 💛 We’re the Perna family—just your classic mama and papa bear duo… except our cub? She’s a golden one. Literally. Her name is Hazel, and she’s the heart of our little world here in Massachusetts. If you ask Hazel, fall is the superior season. Leaves to crunch, crisp air to zoom through, and apple-scented everything? She’s obsessed. But winter is a close second—it’s marshmallow season (also known as snow, but don’t tell her that). Watching her play in flurries makes our hearts melt like cocoa by the fire. Now, a little secret about mama bear: once upon a time, she was actually terrified of dogs. After being bitten as a child, fear clung on for years—until one day in 2021, something inside her shifted. She decided it was time to love boldly and fearlessly. And for her, that meant one thing: a Golden Retriever. What mama didn’t expect was how deeply healing Hazel would be. Having lived with anxiety and panic disorder, mama was looking for a companion—a best friend. What she got was something even more magical. Hazel senses mama’s off days like a pro, rushing in with snuggles, tail wags, and kisses that say, “I got you.” The search for Hazel started in 2020, when mama found a remarkable breeder in North Carolina—one focused on service dogs, with hearts of gold (just like their pups). It was love at first phone call. We applied, we waited, and by June 2021, we got the call: your girl is on her way. When we met Hazel for the first time, she ran right to mama, licked her hands, flopped onto her back, and said with her belly, “I’m yours.” From that day on, the bond was unbreakable. Hazel, like many goldens, didn’t love being apart from mama. One day, mama tucked one of her sweaters into Hazel’s crate—and like magic, Hazel calmed right down. Then, at 10 weeks old, mama slipped one of her sweaters on Hazel. That’s when the real Hazel magic began. Hazel refused to take it off. She cried, she sprinted, she protested like a tiny golden tornado—and so, a tradition was born. Hazel officially claimed mama’s “joooompas” (sweaters), and never looked back. Now, she wears them during naps, Instagram lives, and sometimes just because it's Tuesday. In 2024, we had a heart-to-heart. We felt selfish keeping all this sweetness to ourselves. Papa said, “Why not share it? If Hazel brings us this much joy, maybe she can do that for others too.” So mama started posting. And, well… the internet agreed. Millions of likes, comments, and pure love later, Hazel’s outfits are now inspiring golden retrievers (and humans) everywhere. She's even become a stylist for her friends online—Hazel the fashion icon! We’re beyond grateful for the community that’s grown around Hazel’s joy. Thank you for being part of this journey.
